Brightview

William Eakin, Craig Love, the late Cliff Eyland and I formed Z-r’)O in 2012, a collective which interpreted and pre-digested visions of Winnipeg. Brightview, installed at Project Gallery for Scotiabank CONTACT2014, began with my snapshots of apartment signs on blocks erected by new immigrants in the first half of the 20th century. The enthusiastic fonts, gaily drawn images and names of long-gone wives and children evoked Winnipeg’s sunny past. Z-r’)O commodified this optimism for re-consumption in the public domain through analog and digital techniques.
